Trio of by-elections announced across Camden

Voters will be off to the polls for three by-elections taking place on 5 September 2024.By-elections have been announced for Kilburn ward, Kentish Town South, and Camden Square.

Camden Square

One of the three seats in Camden Square ward has become vacant after the former councillor Danny Beales was elected as the first Labour MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip.

The Camden Square ward has been Labour-held since it was created in 2022.

The ward was previously split between Cantelowes and St Pancras and Somers Town.

Kentish Town South

At the same time, a seat in Kentish Town South ward is to be contested after ex-leader of Camden Council Georgia Gould was elected as MP for Queen’s Park and Maida Vale.

The Kentish Town South ward has been Labour-held since it was created in 2022.

The ward was previously split between Cantelowes and Kentish Town.

The future councillor will join Meriç Apak and Jenny Headlam-Wells.

Kilburn ward

Meanwhile, Lloyd Hatton, who was a councillor for just two years, has been elected to Parliament as the first Labour MP for South Dorset in 14 years.

His departure has resulted in the calling of a by-election for Kilburn ward.

The ward has been Labour-held since it was created in 2002, apart from between 2006 and 2010 when it was served by three Liberal Democrat councillors.

The future councillor will join Labour’s Eddie Hanson and Nanouche Umeadi.

The Local Democracy Reporting Service will provide a full candidate round-up once all parties nominations have been declared.

Residents of all wards have until Monday 19  August to register to vote.

Voters will need to show photo ID when voting in person in this by-election.

Applications to register to vote must reach the Electoral Registration Officer by 12 midnight on 19 August 2024. Applications can be made online: Register to vote.

Applications, amendments or cancellations of postal votes must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Electoral Services, Camden Town Hall, Judd Hall, London WC1H 9JE by 5pm on 20 August 2024. Applications can be made online: Apply for a postal vote.

Applications for a Voter Authority Certificate or an Anonymous Elector’s Document valid for this election must reach the Electoral Registration Officer by 5pm on 28 August 2024. Applications for a Voter Authority Certificate can be made online: Apply for photo ID to vote (called a ‘Voter Authority Certificate’).

Applications to vote by proxy at this election must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Electoral Services, Camden Town Hall, Judd Hall, London WC1H 9JE 5pm on 28 August 2024.

Applications to vote by emergency proxy at this election must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Electoral Services, Camden Town Hall, Judd Hall, London WC1H 9JE by 5pm on 5 September 2024.
