Christmas in Camden: Music, theatre and more to get you into the festive spirit
Now that you have (hopefully) got your Christmas shopping out of the way during Black Friday, you’ll be up for a festive cultural event.
Camden boasts a range of options this year.
King’s Place is putting on a series of variously-flavoured musical events, from a BIG Gospel Choir at Christmas to Tim Edey’s Celtic Christmas, A Funky Soulful Christmas with Michael Mwenso and A Carolling Christmas with King’s Place Choir (see kingsplace.co.uk for dates and details).
The Canal Museum is seeking to tempt you to their carolling event Carols and Ices on 12 December with a sweet treat, and in Hampstead, the St. Genesius Choir is holding its annual Burgh House Christmas Concert on 16 December.
If you prefer classical, there is a Bach Christmas Oratorio by the Belsize Baroque Orchestra at St Peter’s Church in Belsize Square on 8 December.
Theatrical offerings with a seasonal theme include Room on the Broom at the Lyric Theatre in the West End, the classic Stick Man at Bloomsbury Theatre and Christmas Comes to Moominvalley at Jackson’s Lane in Highgate, all on until 5 January.
For something slightly spicier, you can try Tuckshop’s annual drag panto Peter Pan at the Phoenix Theatre, playing until 6 January.
Meanwhile, the Camden People’s Theatre is hosting a pair of Christmas events by Sh!t Theatre that combine film, theatre muppetry and sing-along fun.
Those with an intellectual bent might want to hear how Christmas songs were commercialised at Gresham College’s lecture ‘Unwrapping Irving Berlin’s White Christmas’ at Conway Hall on 12 December.
